The prevailing advice — upskill, adapt, lead transformation — is producing very little. The real problem is executives who genuinely believe they are navigating well, because nothing in their environment is forcing a reckoning. They are playing the old map, confidently, in the wrong direction.

Reading WHR 2026 alongside ILO and OECD labour data reveals a youth wellbeing crisis driven by two forces in tandem: digital environments that harm, and economies that disappoint. The policy conclusion is not "ban phones." It is: build the conditions within which young people can thrive.
